This year’s TYC weekend events include three restaurant regattas, the Short Handed regatta as well as the Womens Skipper regatta.

Restaurant Regatta Series
The Sunnyside Regatta will be held on June 17, 2006. T
he Gar Woods regatta will be held off the shores of Gar Woods in Carnelian Bay on Saturday July 22, 2006. And finally, the Chambers Landing Regatta will be held, of course, off Chambers Landing on August 19, 2006. See the notice of race here.

Each event will have three races with the warning signal at 3:00 PM.

Hosting the three events in venues outside of Tahoe City give the boats that live outside of town a chance to compete close to home. Post-event parties at each restaurant are fun and well-attended. The locals all know that Sunnyside, Chambers and Gar Woods have some of the best food and drinks on the North and West Shores! This summer, if you have friends or family that can’t make the crew list, send them to the restaurant to watch the races.

The club has made a true commitment to the boats of yesteryear that have a tough time competing head to head with the sport boats of the new millenium. There are three separate PHRF divisions. Boats that choose not to fly spinnakers will race in the cruising class, boats with PHRF ratings of above 90 will race in the B class, and boats with PHRF ratings 90 and below will race in the A class. There are event and series awards for all classes. In an attempt to further level the playing field, the slower classes of boats will start ahead of the faster classes. In addition, every attempt will be made to get all of the boats back to the dock around the same time.

Womens Skipper Regatta
The Womens Skipper Regatta, requiring a female skipper at the helm, will take place on July 23, 2006. This is always a fun race and is traditionally followed by a great potluck with appetizers at the awards party. See the notice of race here.

Short Handed Regatta
The short handed event will be held on August 20, 2006. This event is always a great opportunity for the skipper to grab his or her best mate and see what they can do on their own. (It’s also a great race for the rest of the crew to watch from a power boat as their beloved skipper does it all alone!) See the notice of race here.

These races, in addition to the Trans Tahoe Regatta provide for a full season of weekend racing on Lake Tahoe.
